Northanger Abbey - Jane Austen

Fiind una din autoarele mele preferate, de fiecare data cand citesc un roman al lui Jane Austen sunt in acelasi timp incantata si impresionata dar ma urmareste mereu si impresia ca stiu ce va urma. Am reusit in sfarsit sa achizitionez toate romanele ei in limba engleza si le reiau la citit acum, cu mare placere si satisfactie lingvistica. Valoarea lor sta tocmai in limba lor originala si orice pasionat al acestei limbi nu va trece prin ele fara cel putin un pic de placere. Chiar daca subiectul inclina adesea spre plictiseala, nefiind de actualitate, povestile simple si moralizatoare despre prietenie, dragoste, rang, prejudecati, societate, maturitate si tot felul de conflicte inter-personale sunt totusi atragatoare tocmai prin aceasta simplitate.


Northanger Abbey abordeaza aceste teme clasice ale romanelor lui Jane Austen incepand de la caile intortocheate ale societatii si pana la pasiunea tinerei eroine pentru romanele gotice. Romanul a fost perceput si ca o parodie a acestor atat de populare romane gotice si a mai fost considerat si o simpla scriere menita a intretine familia autoarei. Intr-adevar, de-a lungul lecturii ai mereu impresia ca povestea este ironica, personajele sunt usor fortate(probabil tot in acest scop) iar sarcasmul subtil e imposibil de trecut cu vederea.

Saturday ramblings

Saturday again, and indeed a wonderful day it is. I'm looking back to last year and comparing situations and I am surprised and pleased. Though my financial situation has not much improved, I am surprisingly discovering how wonderful a year I've had. Strange how I somehow measure my years starting and ending with the vacation. Last year's was a disaster that lead into a disaster but all's well that ends well cause look at me now. I cannot begin to rejoice for the incredible amount of spare time that I'm having, for all the books I am able to read and all the hours and days that I can dedicate fully to myself and those dear to me. It is what I would call an ideal situation, however hard it is to keep sometimes.
So, in view of those sentimental words, here follow my usual Saturday ramblings.

I treated myself these days...a pair of shoes that make me smile and a couple of movies that make me cry. What else can a girl ask for! :)
